Stop Glorifying Exhaustion: Why Rest is the Most Productive Thing You Can Do
In our fast-paced world, we often find ourselves caught in a cycle of constant busyness. But what if I told you that sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is simply stop and rest? Today, I want to share a personal experience that taught me the importance of self-care and taking time for ourselves.
The Slip and Slide Moment
Yesterday, while juggling multiple tasks and learning about new AI software, I had a literal slip-up. In my haste to close a box I'd left open in the rain, I found myself playing an unintended game of slip and slide on my deck. As I lay there, in the rain, on my a$$, frustrated and in pain, I realized something had to change.
The Decision to Rest
Even though it was a Monday, instead of pushing through the pressure of business demands, I decided to take a step back. I created a cozy space in my bedroom, complete with a comfortable $24.99 Goodwill chair, and dedicated this time to rest and self-reflection.
The Importance of Self-Care
Self-care isn't just about pampering yourself; it's about creating a safe space for hibernation, silence, and getting to know yourself better. I've developed the courage to even consider this through an incredible course I'm participating in, Mel Robbins' Launch 2024, which has been instrumental in helping me reset and refocus. Mel, an outstanding motivational coach and speaker, has been guiding this cohort through deep introspection and teaching us about the importance of small daily actions that build up to a better version of yourself.
Embracing a New Project
While the ambitious part of me wanted to dive into launching my business, I realized that my true "project" for the next few weeks should be self-care. This includes:
- Journaling and morning pages
- Reading books from Goodwill
- Taking relaxing baths
- Creating peaceful moments with incense
An Invitation to You
I invite you to join me in this journey of peace and quiet. If you're feeling overwhelmed, remember that it's okay to:
- Turn everything off
- Shut your door
- Tell everyone to leave you alone for a while
We all need to steal moments for ourselves, to be neither an employee, a parent, a sibling, nor a friend - just ourselves.
Remember, the world will keep spinning without you. It's time to stop glorifying exhaustion and start embracing rest. Because sometimes, rest truly is the most productive thing you can do.
